Cataract

We help those in need in Africa who have lost their sight due to a lack of treatment regain their vision through surgery; we open the door to an independent life.

Due to direct exposure to sunlight, malnutrition, poor hygiene conditions, and dusty environments, cataracts—particularly in Africa and other developing regions—leave millions of people at risk of permanent blindness at a young age. This condition, which can be treated with a simple 15-minute surgery in developed countries, is casting a shadow over the futures of both individuals and their families due to poverty and a shortage of specialized physicians. As the Paye Humanitarian Aid Association, we are restoring sight to thousands of patients through the health screening networks we have established in the region and our partner surgeons.

How Do We Work? (Treatment and Surgical Process)

Clinical Preparation and Sterile Surgery: Selected patients are transported to health centers. In accordance with modern surgical standards, the clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens during a surgical procedure lasting approximately 15–20 minutes.

Wound Care, Follow-up, and Medication Provision: Post-operative patients undergo their first follow-up examinations, and they are provided with protective eye drops and medications. The next day, when the eye patch is removed, the patient begins to see again.

Donor Notification: Donors who contribute toward a full surgery for one person will receive a notification containing photos of the patient after the surgery is completed, along with details of the procedure.
